Omochi is very important for Japanese. During the normal time, Japanese has a lot of different desserts made by omochi. New year time even more important that every family must have Omochi and it will be the main dishes for most of Japanese family. 麻糬在日本佔了相當重要的地位.在平時,有很多菓子都是用麻糬的原料來製作.到了過年,麻糬更是重要.幾乎家家戶戶都要準備,同時新年期間吃麻糬幾乎是主要的正餐.


Some of the family just go to the super market to buy the omochi. My neighbor and her friends make omochi together for around 30 years. I am luck that I have the chance to see how they make it. 很多家庭現在都是在超市買現成的麻糬.我的鄰居每年都跟朋友製作麻糬已經有將近30年了.今年我很幸運的能夠參與.



The way to make omochi, first have to wash the rice (sticky rice) one day before. And then has to steam the rice. When the rice is cooked, and put into the stone mortar and pound it. During pounding, once a while has to turn the rice which is getting thicker and thicker and may stick on the mortar. It takes around 20~30 minutes, it depends on the rice and the time when the rice was washed. Most of the time the pounding work belong to men. After the rice is ready, it is the work for women. 製作麻糬的步驟,首先要將糯米在前一天洗淨晾乾.接下來是將米蒸熟後放到石臼內開始搗米.在搗米的同時,要時不時的翻動糯米免的黏在石臼上.漸漸的米就越來越黏.大約20~30分左右即可完成.通常搗米是男士的工作.女士則負責搓糯米.

Although for women to make omochi is easier, it needs some skill, too. It is not just to make it in small pieces but also to make it round which will look nicer. To put the sweet red bean inside also very difficult. Specially Japanese like sweet red bean very much, so inside of omochi has a lot of sweet red bean. 雖然女士只是搓麻糬,這也是要有技巧的.不是把大麻糬變小麻糬就可以了,還要搓的美美的.另外,要是有放紅豆的就困難多了.尤其是日本人很喜歡吃紅豆,裡面放了好多紅豆.更增加了縮口的難度.

There are different type of omochi. At that day, we had the other omochi with black bean. For this one has to put special salt and cannot pound to long. It takes around 10 minutes so the black bean will not damage. 除了一般了麻糬外,還有加了黑豆的鹹麻糬.這個就簡單一點不用搗太久.因為不可以把黑豆搗碎.大約10分左右就可以了.

After the omochi is ready, we have to put outside to dry it for a while. When we finish all the omochi. Everybody clean the place and have nice lunch together. Of course we have the very fresh omochi as well. After lunch, everyone pick up their own omochi and finish the even for this year.搓好的麻糬要先放在外面晾乾.等到大家的麻糬都做好後,大家將場地收拾乾淨並享用美味的午餐.當然也少不了我們辛苦製作的新鮮麻糬. 享用完午餐後,大家把各自的麻糬打包後,結束了今年的麻糬製作,明年再見了!!!
